SLR Rifleworks QMod

The KeyMod Direct Attachment System was developed for low profile lightweight modular. The current available products to attach a sling to a KeyMod equipped handguard require a QD Swivel Attachment Mount along with the corresponding QD Swivel connected to your sling. SLR Rifleworks took out the middleman with their new QMod.

The Q-MOD is the QD Swivel and KeyMod Attachment point all in one. Quite simplistic that we are surprised no one thought to do it thus far. SLR Rifleworks is yet another manufacturer to offer a handguard using the direct attach system with their new 9" and 12" Liberty KeyMod, which you can see the former in the shot below with a QMod ready to go.

Best known for manufacturing light sticks, Cyalume is showcasing several new products at Milipol 2013 in Paris. They have released the video below highlighting four products utilizing their IR marking and Battlefield Simulator technologies that can be used on both friendly or foe, including the Razorback Route Clearance Marking System, VisiPad, ToTaL IR, and HG1: Hand Grenade Trainer.

ToTal IR is one product that is particularly intriguing as you can mark an area with the Infrared Powder, which can later be utilized to identify an intruder as the powder sticks to their person after coming in contact. The powder is then viewed by Infrared detection devices to track down or indicate the intruder directly.

Hybrid AR-15 Receiver Crush Test

We first touched on Tennessee Arms Company's Hybrid AR-15 Lower Receiver in early October and they are due to start shipping initial orders this week in a variety of colors. They have now provided a video showing a vice crush test to show any potential deformity/breakage from stress on the magwell and trigger group compartment of the receiver. For a quick rehash, the Hybrid Receiver consists of a reinforced polymer material with Marine Grade Brass threaded inserts to attach the pistol grip and buffer tube.

As with any polymer lower, we are curious as to the fit with other parts as well as the durability at those key connection points when put under stress. With their introductory pricing we are sure a fair amount of folks will be trying them out. Tennessee Arms Company will be releasing complete lowers as well. See their complete product lineup at TNArmsCo.com

Milipol is bringing out some of the latest firearms released to be showcased for defense forces around the globe. FN Herstal is on hand to exhibit their wide range of small arms including their new Minimi Mk3 Light Machine Guns chambered in 5.56mm and 7.62mm. Of particular note is the capability to utilize a conversion kit to allow the 7.62 model to fire 5.56x45 ammunition. As with previous models, there will be several variants for each new version. We have provided the full release below.

FN MINIMI 7.62 Mk3
Belgium-based small arms manufacturer FN Herstal unveils the next generation FN MINIMI® Light Machine Gun in both 5.56mm and 7.62mm calibers during the MILIPOL exhibition in Paris (19 to 22 November  2013).

The modifications introduced on the FN MINIMI® Mk3 result from feedback provided by users engaged in current operating theatres. Indeed, the demands of users have evolved over the past 10 to 15 years due to changes in the way the FN MINIMI® machine gun is used in combat (increased use of accessories, evolution in the soldier’s equipment, and changes in tactics such as shooting from all positions).

FN Minimi 5.56 MK3
FN MINIMI® 5.56 Mk3 Tactical SB Machine Gun, seen here with optional accessories including heatshield.

The new FN MINIMI® Mk3 offers the users improved ergonomics and improved mobility while retaining the same core mechanism as the previous versions, for a limited impact on logistics.

Main changes are:
  • An ergonomic buttstock adjustable in length (5 positions) to allow compensation for body armor and load bearing equipment. The buttstock is adjustable for cheek rest height as well. The user can have his eye correctly aligned with the iron sights, or optical sights, while keeping his cheek properly positioned on the buttstock. It also integrates a folding shoulder rest and a hydraulic buffer that stabilizes the rate of fire and reduces felt recoil.
  • A new handguard/bipod assembly that provides a comfortable handguard and three forward MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny® accessory rails. The adjustable-height (3 positions) bipod, when folded back, integrates into the shape of the handguard even with an accessory on the lower rail.
  • An ergonomically-shaped cocking handle that gives the user a better grip with the strong or weak hand.
  • An improved feed tray with belt retaining pawls that hold the belt correctly in position during the loading procedure, which is most useful when the user is in the standing position.
  • An optional heatshield that greatly reduces the risk of inadvertently touching the barrel.
  • The convertibility of the FN MINIMI® 7.62 to fire 5.56x45mm ammunition.
Customers with 5.56mm or 7.62mm FN MINIMI® machine guns already in service are not left behind. FN Herstal offers them a customized upgrade program to upgrade partially or completely their weapons: adapted to their exact needs and easily carried out by the armorer on site using the supporting documentation provided with the conversion kits.

FN Herstal’s technical experts are also available to help the customer make the right choice among the various conversion kits or accompany him during the converting operations.

The new FN MINIMI® Mk3 machine gun in 5.56mm and 7.62mm calibers, as well as the various conversion kits, will be on show on FN Herstal’s booth during the MILIPOL exhibition in Paris (Belgian Pavilion, hall 5, booth no. M217).

Pre-Solicitation for Operational Camouflage Pattern Fabric with Permethrin Treatment

$

There are still plenty of naysayers out there including those within the mainstream media as well as military journalists that don't think the U.S. Army is moving along with plans to transition out of the Universal Camouflage Pattern into MultiCam. There are numerous reports to support the Army's active pursuit of OCP as the principle camouflage pattern based on facts as well statements made by decision makers from within.

Today, Natick released a Pre-Solicitation for 15,000 yard of Permethrin treated 50/50 NYCO Fabric from an EPA approved vendor for a firm fixed price contract. While, on its face value this is nothing new as uniforms treated for insect repellency has been an existing product and long in the works for an overall improvement in quality of military clothing utilizing this added protection. However, the key terminology utilized for the color utilized on the fabric was Operational Camouflage Pattern. Soldier System Daily discussed the evolution of terminology as the U.S. Army transitions away from the use of Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern or simply OCP as previously utilized in such solicitations.

Another key factor in the pre-solicitation is the fact that they are looking to pick up around 3,000 uniforms worth of fabric. This is not a huge figure given the size of the U.S. Army, but it is sizable amount for testing purposes and clearly the specific camo terminology is changing with the need to find more advanced fabric solutions. The argument that licensing for OCP was simply a cost saving matter due to Operation Enduring Freedom will only hold up so much longer if they continue to procure uniforms in the pattern.

While, the Army is taking their sweet time in making any official announcement and well known media sources are having fun with the headlines and touting the ill advised decisions of utilizing UCP, keep in mind that they have something in the works for OCP, MultiCam, or whatever they want to call it tomorrow. Unfortunately, a solution from the Phase IV Camouflage Improvement Effort doesn't appear to play a factor for the near term. You can see the full pre-solicitation at FBO.gov

They explain it pretty well below in the full release.

Wolf Grey Camo Form

Bellingham, WA (PRWEB) November 21, 2013
McNett® Tactical is pleased to introduce Wolf Grey Camo Form® to its line of urban camouflage options. Optimized for urban, metropolitan and industrial environments, where dark grey tones are most predominant, Wolf Grey easily blends into its surroundings.
“Grey, in predominantly darker hues, has long been a very versatile transitional color,” said Christian Rudolph, product marketing director. “Concrete, asphalt and glass surfaces create low ambient light and shadows, this allows grey to act as an effective camouflage.”
For a limited time, McNett Tactical is offering an exclusive buy one get one free 2-pack promotion on its new Wolf Grey Camo Form pattern. Simply visit McNett.com/Tactical  to take advantage of the offer.
Camo Form is the only reusable camouflage wrap that will not leave a sticky residue when removed. Unlike camouflage tapes, Camo Form adheres to itself as it is wrapped around the object. Camo Form helps conceal weapons and tactical gear, adds grip, quiets clanking objects and helps with noise dampening. In addition, the heavy-duty fabric can be washed and re-used many times over. With 14 traditional and digital camo patterns as well as the new urban camouflage line, Camo Form offers on-the-fly concealment no matter what the environment.
