SHOT Show Staying Put in Vegas
With a sigh of relief for us West of the Mississippi and we are sure to the chagrin of many Easterners, the NSSF has announced that SHOT Show will be hanging out in Vegas till 2018. Given its size and the convivial atmosphere of Las Vegas, we can't think of a better place than the Sands Convention Center. Surely a Texan or Floridian can come up with some suitable alternative, but they are wrong. We have provided the full release below.
LAS VEGAS -- The National Shooting Sports Foundation®(NSSF®) followed up its recently concluded, record-setting Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade ShowTM (SHOT Show®) by adding another year to its agreement with Sands Expo in Las Vegas.
Under the new terms, NSSF will put on the SHOT Show at Sands Expo through 2018. The 2014 SHOT Show, which ran Jan. 14-17, attracted more than 67,000 in total attendance, an all-time high, and was the fifth consecutive SHOT Show held at Sands Expo. NSSF had previously extended its stay at the venue for three years through 2017.
SHOT Show is the fifth largest trade show in Las Vegas and the largest trade show of its kind in the world. "Sands Expo has spent millions of dollars evolving the venue in order to meet SHOT Show's needs and to make our attendees feel welcome," said Chris Dolnack, NSSF Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "We've been pleased with the improvements, and we look forward to continuing to work with them to build on our success here in Las Vegas."
"Everyone at Sands Expo enjoys having SHOT Show in the building. The team is wonderful to work with, and it's exciting to know that we've played a role in helping them grow," said Ashlyn LaPorte, Sands Expo Executive Director of Event Management. "We look forward to continuing this relationship, and can't wait to see what records will be broken in subsequent years."
Sands Expo recently completed a $37 million renovation that significantly upgraded its facilities, including redesigning and remodeling the lobby and adding escalators, new carpeting, Wi-Fi hotspots, food outlets, digital signage and other amenities that have enhanced trade-show experiences for exhibitors and attendees.
The SHOT Show generates more than $73 million for the Las Vegas economy.

U.S. Army Moving Forward with UCP Camo on Permethrin Treated ACU Fabric Solicitation
It is a good thing that they are not outright deleting solicitations and starting fresh years later, however the U.S. Army has clarified that they will be moving forward with the Universal Camouflage Pattern for the latest solicitation requesting 15 Thousand yards of NYCO treated with Permethrin. The latest modifications state that they have decided to go with UCP as this allows the uniform manufacturer to use the trim and garment add-ons already on hand in the Universal Camouflage Pattern. Apparently, no MultiCam leftovers are hanging around to slap on and they don't want to pay to produce them. To clarify, they state that OCP is irrelevant to this effort.

We see a lot of conjecture from the media on what the U.S. Army is doing in relation to the Camouflage Improvement Effort along with the rehash on the money wasted to end up with UCP. Its interesting to see that this is what the Army is sticking with it and that they are not moving along more quickly with the pre-existing MultiCam pattern given their licensing efforts and the fact that any legislation should not prevent its use. The testing is done and the money is spent.
Perhaps the Army don't want to make an official decision that will be put under the media microscope, but to keep going with the status quo is bound to keep bringing on the same negative criticism of their camouflage efforts. See the full solicitation and modifications at FBO.gov
